First time voters - and any voters new to Dallas County - must submit a signed, paper application to register to vote at least a month before Election Day.

To be eligible to vote in Texas, you must:

Be a U.S. citizen.
Be 18 years or older on Election Day.
Be registered to vote in your county of residence 30 days before Election Day. Students may register and vote in the county they declare as their permanent residence.
Show an accepted form of photo ID when you vote at the polls or submit an absentee ballot in person. See which types of photo ID are accepted for voting www.votetexas.gov/register-to-vote/need-id.html.
Not be a convicted felon who is on probation, parole, or incarcerated. Once a felon’s sentence is completely served, voting rights are restored.
Not be declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law.

How to Register to Vote in Texas - Two Ways

Completely on paper or
Start online, but must finish by signing paper

New registrations must be postmarked by the Last Day to Register to vote in the next election, usually thirty days prior to the election. LWV recommends that you not delay.

Register to Vote completely on Paper

Pick up a Texas Voter Registration Application card at libraries, post offices, driver’s licenses offices, Dallas County Election Department www.dallascountyvotes.org/contact-us, in the LWV Dallas Office, or at voter registration drives shown above.
Fill in the information on the Application card. You must include your birth date and then either the last four digits of your social security number or your Texas State driver's license or ID Number.
Sign the Application card.
Submit the Application card
1. If your application is WHITE, mail or take the application to the Dallas County Election Department www.dallascountyvotes.org/contact-us. Dallas County Election’s address is shown on the form.
2. If your application is GREEN, give it to any Volunteer Deputy Register (VDR) of Dallas, including Dallas League of Women Voters volunteers who have been deputized by Dallas County to register new voters. The VDR will submit it to the Dallas County Election Department for you.

or,
if you live in Dallas County, go to https://www.dallascountyvotes.org/voters/registration/register/
Texas does not allow online submission of voter registration, so you must print any application you start online or have it mailed to you to be able to sign it.
Return your completed application by mail so that it arrives more than thirty days prior to the next election date
or
return your completed application in person to the address shown on the form.

Confirm your registration

Check to see if your application was accepted by seeing if your name can be found and your status is “active” at Dallas County Voter Look Up www.dallascountyvotes.org/voters/registration/status. You will need to confirm your status before every election going forward.
