The League of Women Voters of Dallas will host open government attorney,  Joe Larsen, for an in-depth presentation on your right to access public meetings. The presentation will focus on the Texas Open Meetings Act (T.O.M.A.) requirements including what government business can be conducted behind closed doors or your right to give public comment.

Participants are welcome to ask questions during the hour-and-a-half presentation. If you have specific questions about how the law applies to certain scenarios, this presentation is for you.  

This presentation is in support of  Advocacy Committee volunteers who attend local government meetings as part of the Observer Corps program.  

Joe Larsen is a partner in Houston with Gregor Wynne Arney PLLC. Mr. Larsen has extensive experience regarding all aspects of media representation including prepublication, defamation, subpoenas, and access and newsgathering cases including freedom of information laws. He also has an active trial and appellate practice in commercial and general litigation.

He is a board member and chair of review committee for the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and recipient of FOIFT's 2010 James Madison Award. He was 2012-13 Chair, the ABA/TIPS Media, Privacy and Defamation Law Committee.
