Support the City Amendment for Voters to Consider Election Consolidation!

The Mayor and the City Council are considering an amendment to allow Dallas voters to decide if we want to move our municipal elections from May to November of odd-numbered years. Consolidating our elections will limit voter fatigue and confusion, and is beneficial in cost. If the amendment is approved, it goes to the voters for final say this November.

The City Council will discuss the amendment again at the Wednesday, June 26 meeting. Please contact the Mayor and your Council members directly to advocate in support of the amendment’s inclusion on November’s ballot. This is one of the most effective things we can all do. You can find information on your City Councilperson here, and a list of their names and emails is below (Chad West of District 1 is the Councilperson proposing the amendment).

Volunteering Update

Check out our upcoming voter services opportunities:
  • There is a huge soccer event in The Colony this weekend – the COPA Univision event. Spanish speaking volunteers will be especially appreciated.
  • Senior Voter Services & Back to School volunteer opportunities

Spanish is a huge asset for voter engagement!

Are you a LWV member or voter services volunteer who speaks Spanish and would like to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR)?   We want your help to increase Latino voter registration and turnout. Norma Arratia is coordinating with Dallas County Elections to create a VDR training in Spanish over the summer.  If you are fluent in Spanish please reach out to Norma at narratia227@gmail.com if you are interested in the Spanish VDR training.

Support the John Lewis Voting Rights Amendment Act

HR14/S4 John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (JLVRAA) has been reintroduced in the 118th Congress! LWVUS is actively advocating in support of this critical piece of legislation, but LWVUS needs our help to elevate your unique perspectives from our state and local levels of government. Individuals should send messages supporting the JLVRAA to Congress using the action alert here.
