SUSAN B. ANTHONY LUNCHEON

This year's Susan B. Anthony Luncheon was a rousing success.  We had a sold out crowd to honor our awardees, Carol Donovan for the namesake award and Mark and Lauren Melton for the Eleanor Sutherland Volunteer award.

This event is our major fundraiser of the year, and we want to thank our many  sponsors for their contributions in making the event profitable so we can continue our work of educating and registering voters, and bringing awareness to issues in our community of Dallas County.

We could not contemplate hosting these awards and luncheon without the help of many volunteers within the League.  Shout outs to our wonderful luncheon co-chairs, Annette Anderson and Cathy Estrada.  We would surely be amiss without the guiding hand of our SBA Luncheon Committee Chair, Cecilia McKay.  The many volunteers who publicize our event, stuff envelops with invitations, print name tags, work on seating, work check-in and check-out and our fabulous crew that work the Silent Auction make this event happen.

We have a special shout out to Louise Hytken, our volunteer photographer for the luncheon.

TV NEWS CELEBRITY JOINS THE SUSAN B. ANTHONY LUNCHEON

We were delighted to have Gloria Campos Brown master the ceremonies of the 26th Annual Susan B. Anthony Luncheon. She provided her usual dynamism and sunny disposition to the proceedings. Those of us that remember her were not disappointed to find out that retirement has not diminished her spunk. Regretfully, her bio was omitted from the program book but here it is to let us know what she has been up to since her retirement.

Since retiring from a 40-year career in TV News in 2014,
Gloria Campos, a two-time Hall of Fame winning journalist, continues to pursue interests and causes that have always been important to her. Gloria relocated to the Hill Country of Texas five years ago but remains a sought-after speaker and moderator.

Gloria has been honored to moderate discussions with such notables as First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden as well as former first ladies, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton as well as former US Senator, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, broadcaster Robin Roberts, feminist Gloria Steinem, actors Molly Ringwald and Cynthia Nixon. She has also moderated debates including one presidential debate. “I had no inkling when I retired that I would continue to exercise my interviewing skills,“ said Ms. Campos. “But it’s a lot more fun and rewarding now that I employ these skills on behalf of so many worth causes.”

Gloria has also found another platform to communicate her views and concerns with the public.  She has thousands of Facebook friends as well as over 30-thousand followers on Twitter!

Most recently, Gloria served on Texas State University’s Development Foundation including the position of Board Chair. She is a 2020 Texas State Distinguished Alumni and proud benefactor of the Mass Comm Department through the Gloria Campos Endowed Scholarship.

Gloria Campos has been married over 45 years to Lance Brown and they have twin sons who are presently living and working in Dallas.
