Texas Civil Rights Project  (TCRP) Guest Speaker Joined us on Monday

About TCRP,  a 501(c)(3) organization:

"We are Texas lawyers and advocates for Texas communities, boldly serving the movement for equality and justice in and out of the courts. We envision a Texas where all communities thrive with dignity and justice, and without fear.

TCRP believes that legal advocacy and litigation are critical tools to protect and advance the civil rights of everyone in Texas, particularly our State’s most vulnerable populations, and to effect positive and lasting change to law and policy. We believe that by serving the rising social justice movement in Texas with excellent legal representation and bold strategies, we can respond to the needs of the communities we serve."

Veronikah Warms, from the Texas Civil Rights Project (TCRP), joined us Monday evening to discuss the major voter rights bills in the Texas legislature. You can access her presentation here:  TCRP Voting Rights Texas 88th Legislative Session Presentation

You can also sign up to receive the weekly updates on voter rights legislation from Veronikah here:  bit.ly/TCRPLege

Veronikah covered SB2, a bill that further criminalizes voting.  TCRP testified on Monday, February 27, during the hearing on SB2.  You can watch the Senate, State Affairs Committee hearing here:  Texas Senate Hearing on SB2

You can read about the bill here: Texas Capitol Bill Lookup .  The bill was voted on and reported favorably out of committee on March 1, 2023.

To keep up-to-date on our State League action, please read the emails from Joyce LeBombard, President of the Texas League, and Elisabeth MacNamara, Vice President, Advocacy for the Texas League.

We have one Texas Senator, Tan Parker, District 12, on the State Affairs Committee and he represents 13% of Dallas County.  We do not have a Dallas County Representative on the House Elections Committee.

Candidate Forums:
Chelsea Keller is working with the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and other organizations to schedule candidate forums.  It is going to be a busy election season!  Please check our event calendar to see the posted forums to attend:  Events

Naturalization Ceremonies:
Please contact Shannon FitzGerald (voter-reg@lwvdallas.org) if you would like to volunteer to register voters at the naturalization ceremonies in Plano.  There are two March dates - March 9 and March 29.

Voter Guide and VOTE411.org
This is a big election in May for cities all over Dallas County for mayor, city council, school board and other positions.  Please contact Elizabeth Walley if you have time to volunteer.  The team is putting together a Voter Guide for each major city. There are different jobs to be done and Elizabeth will work with you to find what you would like to do.  If you like talking to candidates, volunteer to be a "wrangler"!
Please send an email to:  info@lwvdallas.org,  to work with Elizabeth.

Volunteer Deputy Registrar  (VDR) Opportunities
