Subject: Dallas City Hall FY2022-23 Budget Meetings
From: League of Women Voters of Dallas

Action Alert -

Dear League Members:

It's budget time at Dallas City Hall for the FY2022-23 budget!  The council briefing is tomorrow  at 9 am with public town halls starting on Thursday.   I hope you can attend a meeting.

Here is the:  City Hall Webpage with Meeting Registration

Rita Beving, with Public Citizen,  has given us permission to share her summary of the calendar activity for the budget that she sent to the team advocating on the city climate plan (CECAP).

You'll find the dates below for the town hall with your city council member.

Please send an email to Ashley Washington, our VP of Advocacy,  if you plan on attending any meetings.

Email from Rita Beving:
Upcoming Budget Dates:
August 9 - Dallas City Council gets briefed on the budget (See Dallas City Hall site to listen as it live streams).
August 11-25 - Budget Town Hall with Council Members (Details below)
August 31 - First Set of Budget Amendments to be Considered (this is where the "horsetrading" begins and we may need to encourage votes for additional money)

Some of you are veterans at attending these town halls and voicing your support for the CECAP.  I hope many of you can do so again.  Just 2 days after Council gets briefed on Tue., the town halls will begin Thur. evening!

Here are some key observations of the town hall list below (it is also attached via PDF):
  • Most of these are in person and as early as 6 pm.  Some nights you could go in person, talk early, and join another town hall via phone call if you have time.
  • All meetings are just Mon-Thur, but there is 1 Saturday meeting.
  • There are some joint town halls, and some even have 3 CMs in attendance.  These are great as we can get several folks at one time.
  • CM Resendez has only 1 town hall during the last week.
  • This schedule is pretty solid, but I will let folks know if any more town halls are added or changed.
STRATEGY MEETING TUE. NIGHT at 6:30 via Zoom  We will discuss what our asks are re: amendments and what our take is on how the budget affects the Dallas climate plan or CECAP.  The zoom call will last about an 1 hour.  If you think you might be able to attend some of these town halls during August 11-25 via zoom or in person, please reply to me with an email.  If you can't attend a town hall virtually or in person, I will send out talking points to email Council.
